Lago Cerqueira Red – Douro
Quinta da Calçada is located in the northern historic city center of Amarante, 40 minutes from Porto. It is located in the Amarante sub-region of the Vinho Verde region, about 10 minutes from the entrance to the Douro region.
Lago means “lake” in Portugese which reflects the refreshing style, but more importantly the wines are named after founder, António do Lago Cerqueira. Born in the palace (Casa da Calçada) he studied wine production and the latest techniques for vineyards, while in France. On returning to the palace, Lago Cerqueira applied his knowledge, planting vineyards that surround the Casa. He was an oenologist, diplomat and visionary.
Today Quinta da Calçada has the oldest planted vineyard in the region, that has been in production for almost 100 years. Inside the Estate you can also enjoy a 5 star Relais Châteaux Hotel and a one star Michelin Restaurant.
Tasting Notes Lago Cerqueira Red-Douro: Aromas of prunes, strawberry and blackberries with sweet nuances of tobacco. Full-bodied. Aged in French & American oak for 3 months.
