Chenas Quartz 2014 Domaine Piron-Lameloise

Descriptions:

Chénas is the smallest Beaujolais Cru by surface area. This comes from a nine-hectare parcel of vines of more than 60 years of age on a steep, east- facing slope between 310 and 380 metres up, that Piron runs with the three Michelin-starred Lameloise restaurant in Chagny. They are all pruned in the traditional goblet (head-pruned) style of Beaujolais. The harvest is done entirely by hand. Only manual harvesting is allowed in the Beaujolais region.

100% Gamay – A full-on nose of spice, earth and prettiness is mirrored on a palate that seems to bring together notes of lilac and peony before unveiling mature tannins. Supple, generous and vibrant, with graphite and deeply scented red fruits.

A real stunner. Pairs well with rich, complex sauces and grilled meats.

90 points Gismondi on Wine “Rock juice. That's what this wild ferment Chénas is like, living up to its Quartz name. Dominique Piron is the 14th generation winemaker at the family estate. Woodsy, spice notes open, with subtle earthy smoke, dark florals, wild black plum, black cherry, black raspberry laid across a textured stream bed of stones. Tannins are slightly grippy and acids are bright and shining through to a fine peppery finish. Quite structured, this would hold up to roasted pork tenderloin or grilled sausages.”

Castillo de Jumilla Rosé 2018

Descriptions:

This wine perfectly expresses all of the qualities the Monastrell grape (100%) can bring to a rosé. Dry, crisp with fruit notes of strawberry and raspberry, good acidity and a beautiful pink colour. To achieve this, a short maceration with skins on is followed by a long temperature-controlled fermentation. Clean and powerful on the nose. It starts fresh on the palate with a round, elegant texture and a pleasant finish. Sublime for appetizers and summer dinners in good company, it pairs well with shellfish, seafood, sushi, salads, charcuterie, paella, and pasta.

Thalassitis Santorini Assyritko by Gai’a 2017

Descriptions:

The Greek Grape: Assyritko

Most prominently made on Santorini, the Greek island famed for its stark white architecture and blue-domed roofs, Assyrtiko is a mineral-driven, full-bodied white wine that’s incredibly ageworthy. It picks up its salty tang from volcanic soil and Mediterranean breezes, though vines are protected from harsh winds by a unique basket vine training method called kouloura. “Its bright citrus flavors, notes of sea spray and herbaceous undertones work perfectly with Mediterranean [cuisine],” says Haunah Klein, head sommelier at Boulud Sud Miami.

Vallon des Cigales Reserve Provence Rosé 2018

Descriptions:

Vallon des Cigales draws its name from the vines that grow in a small valley at the very heart of the appellation. When the warm days of summer arrive in Provence, the air is filled with the love songs of the male cicadas insects, named “Cigales” in French, that thrive in the woods around the vines. Love is in the air.

TASTING NOTES:

Beautiful, brilliant pale pink colour. Subtle nose offering delicious aromas of red fruits, red currant and black currant. The mouth-feel is extremely pleasant opening with floral notes. It is fruity with a refreshing and remarkably long finish.

Pairs with most foods, fairly effortlessly, it’s especially wonderful with seafood and BC spot prawns.
